Does HTProtect increase the amount of memory on the server?

Hey Klaus,
what do you mean by significant?
The auto-updates create a rollback point (1 by default) for the specific extension – this includes files and database tables.
If it’s a really big extension, it can be a bit larger. Usually, these rollback points are in the 1-2 digit MB range.

Hey again,

The storage usage is going down again now. There was a bug that caused the core reference for the core sync to be saved along with it. For two rollback points, that was 2 × 32 MB.

Basically, you can find bigger storage hogs in the .app dashboard under Backup → Exclude Large Objects → Analyze. This tool was also made more robust today.

Thanks for the reply. For me, it goes from 113 to 178 MB. Even with the new version. I have SP Pagebuilder Pro installed as a component.

That fits pretty much exactly with what was just fixed in 2.5.7. The 2 × ~35 MB (Joomla Core reference ZIPs) no longer accumulate and are cleaned up automatically.

If, against expectations, the storage usage is still too high the day after tomorrow (cleanup only happens once a day), please report back.

I’ve got a different problem now. On one of my sites, I installed HTProtect and enabled admin protection. Also, there’s a PHP file running a reservation system on that site. At first, logging in worked fine, and the plan worked too. But now, I can’t access the backend anymore, and the plan isn’t working either. The plan’s file was added as an exception.

I deleted the admin protection. The backend is working again. The plan isn’t working, even though the exceptions are set. It’s about the mrbs reservation plan.

I uninstalled HTProtect so that the reservation system would work again.

Folder with custom software (forum, shop, etc., runs PHP): In the field "Completely allow folder, including PHP execution" - enter
mrbs
because it's not just one script, but several in the mrbs folder and its subfolders.

There’s no change regarding the amount of data. I’ve installed the latest version of HTProtect.

Hi Klaus,
you can get an overview via the backup card -> Exclude large objects -> Analyze.
administrator/components/com_htprotect shouldn’t be larger than 4-6 MB.

All rollback, backup files and the approx. 32 MB reference ZIP file for core comparison have been moved to
administrator/_htprotect_backups
.

So basically, anything taking up more space ends up there, and administrator/_htprotect_backups can be excluded in other backup tools (like Akeeba).

I always create backups with Akeeba, and strangely, they’ve gotten about 60 MB bigger. I don’t make backups with HTProtect.

As mentioned - you can analyze how much space the administrator/components/com_htprotect directory is taking up.

And the potentially storage-heavy directory
administrator/_htprotect_backups
you can exclude in Akeeba.

I need to check in again. I just created a backup of a site using Akeeba Backup. This backup was about 30 MB larger again. But when I look in the directory overview, I don’t see any large files. Is the folder htprotectautoupdate new? Because there are quite a few files in that folder.

Your screenshot shows
/administrator/_htprotect_backups
not. It’s listed last at the bottom in the Analyze view.

You can exclude that from the backup in Akeeba Backup. That folder holds everything that takes up more space, like extension rollback points, core references, and full or DB backups triggered through the dashboard.

The /administrator/components/com_htprotect folder looks good at 3.1 MB on your end.
