Exploit Shield Rules - Parameter Order

Die Regeln, die ich in der .htaccess von HTProtect unter Abschnitt 4b "Explot shield" finde, sind recht spezifisch. Beispiel: RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} "option=com_jce.*task=plugin\.rpc.*method=upload" [NC] Nach meinem Verständnis der regular Expressions setzt ein Match voraus, dass die genannten Pattern genau in dieser Reihenfolge (erst "option...", dann "task..." und dann "method..." ) auftreten, damit die Regel greift. Die entsprechende Regel in meiner eigenen .htaccess hatte ich allgemeiner gehalten. Deshalb würde mich interessieren, ob mein Verständnis der regular Expressions korrekt ist? ob Joomla wirklich nur diese Reihenfolge akzeptiert oder ob eine eine andere Reihenfolge interpretiert und ausgeführt wird? The rules I found in the HTProtect .htaccess under section 4b "Exploit shield" are pretty specific. For example:
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} "option=com_jce.*task=plugin\.rpc.*method=upload" [NC]
From my understanding of regular expressions, a match requires these patterns to appear exactly in this order (first "option...", then "task...", then "method...") for the rule to trigger.
The corresponding rule in my own .htaccess was more general. So I’m curious,

is my understanding of the regular expressions correct?
does Joomla really only accept this order, or would it interpret and execute a different order as well?

Thanks for the important tip – for some other attack vectors, it was already implemented independently of the order – now JCE too.

Quick question related to that. I noticed some RewriteRules in the HTProtect .htaccess that end with just [F]. From what I understand about .htaccess, that means everything after that still gets processed by the (Apache) server. - Is that necessary? Wouldn't it be more efficient resource-wise to end a RewriteRule that triggers a 403 (placed at the end of a block, right before "</IfModule>") with [F,L] to stop further processing of the .htaccess right away?

Thanks for taking a close look – but you can rest easy here: In mod_rewrite, [F] already implies [L]. If a [F] rule matches, Apache immediately returns a 403 and stops processing any further RewriteRules (Apache docs on the F flag: “an [L] is implied”). So adding an extra [F,L] would be functionally the same – no difference in resource use. If a rule doesn't match, the following signatures are intentionally still checked (each rule = a different attack pattern); [L] wouldn’t change that since it only kicks in on a match. In short: the block short-circuits on a hit – I think it’s fine as is. Cheers
