I took another look at it. See 2.5.14 Changelog.
Update backups have been significantly slimmed down.
The rollback backups before auto-updates now consist of a single compressed archive file instead of tens of thousands of tiny files; HTProtect automatically cleans up old ones and does a one-time cleanup of the old stock. Purely a storage improvement – rolling back still works perfectly. (Spotted in the forum – thanks to webbie07.)
If in doubt, clear autoupdate once – the cleanup should happen automatically anyway.
